No lawn is worth a life! Ban Use of Toxic Herbicides on Calgary's Public Lands

The Issue

What if your child’s playtime could cause cancer?
What if your dog’s favorite walk exposed them to toxins every step of the way?

Across Calgary, herbicides like 2,4-D and Dicamba are still used in public spaces, where children play, where pets roll, where families gather. Yet a 2024 study has linked these chemicals to higher rates of leukemia and brain tumors in children [1]. And for dogs, the danger is just as real as lawn chemicals have been shown to increase cancer risk by 70% [2].

Alberta is now one of only two provinces that still doesn’t regulate these chemicals, despite years of warnings from the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment [3]. Other provinces have already adopted safer, effective alternatives to protect their communities.

Calgary can too. But only if we act.

Protect our kids. Protect our pets.

Sign the petition to ban toxic herbicides from public land, before more harm is done.
