Dear friends, as you would remember, we had campaigned against the landfill on the banks of Yamuna last year and i had personally met several people responsible for making this plan. I was assured by them that the idea would be scrapped, infact the Principal Committee of the NGT had supported our concern and had rejected the proposal. Despite that CPCB was involved in the matter and now we learn through media reports that the landfill is to be built as per plan, on the banks of River Yamuna. Interestingly there are 2 landfills proposed this time, covering over 150-200 acres of active floodplains of the river, with toxic waste, contaminating the already stressed water resource of Delhi - River Yamuna and the groundwater. We have reopened the petition on this site, also exploring all legal and other options to ensure that our government/s don't go ahead with such a dangerous plan.
