Urgent ACVM Bill Scheduled for Third Reading Tommorrow

The ACVM Amendment Bill is scheduled for its third reading in Parliament tomorrow, Tuesday 22 September.
We are asking you to take one more important step:
Please email your MP today and tell them you oppose all GE bills, including the ACVM Amendment Bill, and want them to vote against the ACVM Amendment Bill and all GE bills (Gene Technology and HSNO).
The ACVM Amendment Bill weakens how genetically engineered products get approved in New Zealand.

Or, if you want to add some facts about why you oppose the ACVM Amendment Bill, you could mention:
- You are concerned that the Bill could enable agricultural compounds involving gene technology to be assessed under the ACVM framework with less oversight than is currently required.
The Bill is part of a wider set of regulatory changes affecting gene technology in New Zealand, including the HSNO Amendment Bill and Gene Technology Bill. - You believe New Zealand needs strong precautionary safeguards, transparency and public accountability when products involving gene technology are approved.
- You want clear information about whether agricultural and veterinary products involve gene technology.
- Research has found that increasing pasture diversity can reduce methane yield in grazing dairy cows, while supporting animal production. This provides evidence that pasture and diet management can be part of the approach to reducing methane, rather than relying on interventions such as vaccines or other products administered to cattle. So there is NO need to inject cattle.
- Please contact your MP today and ask them to vote against the ACVM Amendment Bill at its third reading, and to oppose all the GE bills (Gene Technology and HSNO).
