The City of Toronto will fly the Socialist Republic of Vietnam's flag in honour of their Independence Day on September 2nd, 2022. Vietnamese Canadians see this flag in the same light as Canadians would see the Nazi flag.

The Vietnamese Canadians in Toronto and surrounding are calling everyone to sign this petition opposing the display of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam’s flag on September 2nd. This day is not a diplomatic event that requires the official national flag to be exposed. Furthermore the Communist government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has been repeatedly violating human rights of the Vietnamese people resulting millions of Vietnamese risking their lives fleeing the North in 1954 and the country after 1975 in search for human rights and freedom; hundreds of thousands of lives lost at sea; husbands were separated from wives; children were forced away from parents. The flag does not speak of human rights and freedom. It does not deserve to fly in Canada.
