No Dowry, No Alimony — End Financial Transactions in Marriage

No Dowry, No Alimony — End Financial Transactions in Marriage
The Issue
Marriage should be built on respect and equality—not on money, demands, or financial obligations before or after it.
If society agrees that dowry is wrong, then we must also question why alimony becomes an automatic financial expectation.
And filing false legal cases in matrimonial cases must be punished under the law.
We stand for a simple principle:
No Dowry. No Alimony. Only Equality.
Dowry—though illegal under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961—still exists in hidden forms. At the same time, alimony under laws like Section 125 of CrPC and Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 often becomes a post-marriage financial burden without uniform standards.
Laws of dowry act are misused for alimony almost in every state of the India.
Both systems—dowry and unchecked alimony—turn marriage into a financial arrangement instead of a partnership.
Our Stand:
1-If taking money before marriage (dowry) is wrong, demanding money after marriage (alimony without fairness) is equally wrong.
2-Financial dependence should not be institutionalised— both partners must be encouraged towards independence and responsibility.
3-Marriage should not become a transaction at entry or exit.
We Demand:
1-Strict eradication of dowry in all forms
Reform or removal of unfair alimony practices
2-Time-bound and need-based support, not lifetime entitlement , stop gold digging on the name of alimony
3-Gender-neutral laws ensuring fairness for both partners
4-Promotion of equal responsibility and financial independence
5-This is not about men vs women.
6-This is about ending money-driven marriages.
Let marriage remain what it is meant to be—a union of two individuals, not a lifelong financial contract.
By signing this petition, you stand for reform. Join us in urging our representatives to abolish outdated alimony petrifinns and introduce balanced measures that truly stand for justice.
