NMBON Mandate to Redistribute Clinical Hours During CoVID-19 Crisis for Graduation

NMBON Mandate to Redistribute Clinical Hours During CoVID-19 Crisis for Graduation
The Issue
Due to the CoVID-19 Crisis, hospitals are closing their doors to students and we are unable to fulfill our hour requirements, which could prevent us from graduating and licensing at the completion of our program. Latest information that complies with the New Mexico Board of Nursing:
1. Clinical experiences may use up to 50% in a virtual simulation (using lap top, tablet or PC) or live simulation experience (lab area).
2. 50% of clinical experiences will be in a live, face to face environment e.g. hospital with direct patient care and with supervision of a nursing faculty member
3. We are required to complete 180 hours of clinical, 90 hours may come from simulation experiences, the other 90 hours must come from live patient care experiences such as at hospitals.
Without completion of these hours we are not eligible graduate or sit for the licensing exam.
We are senior nursing students writing this petition that are in the last semester (8 weeks or less) of becoming licensed, trained registered nurses. This also affects our underclassmen that will be delayed in their pursuit of a higher education and meaningful employment.
As senior nursing students, we have been extensively trained for the last 15 months. We are ready to pour our skills, knowledge, and hearts into the medical community.
We need NMBON to soften their restrictions and provide an alternate solution for the clinical hours to the thousands of student nurses that are impacted by this crisis.
The fate of our future employment lies in the hands of those at NMBON. We desperately want to partake in alleviating the nursing shortage in New Mexico.
Our heart's desire is to care for those in their most vulnerable state.
Please join us and sign this petition to mandate the NMBON to find an alternate solution to our clinical hours so we can achieve our dreams and desires, and be the next wave of licensed, registered nurses in 8 weeks so we can assist during this health crisis.
