Abolish Domestic Terrorism in Nigeria: End SARS forever. #ENDSARS

The Issue

The #ENDSARS movement refers to the dissolution of the "Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS)", put in place to protect civilians from Armed Robbers. Instead, they harass, attack and kill innocent Nigerians. They profile and falsely attack people using excuses like owning a smart phone or a laptop as evidence of committing fraud and other crimes. They often arrest people based on unjustifiable accusations to extort and then silence these young people with physical threat or harm.

We in the Diaspora are standing in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who face these realities every single day in Nigeria. It is our responsibility to join this fight to end domestic, systemic terrorism in Nigeria. Nigerians deserve the right to live in peace without being afraid of the very justice system that is meant to protect. So, we will make our collective voices heard FROM ALL CORNERS OF THE WORLD. We will donate our resources in time and money to relief and protest efforts and we will join our fellow Nigerians to say - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Across the globe, we are joining the movement to ask the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for these 5 non-negotiables:

1. Immediate release of all arrested protestors.

2. Justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families.

3. Setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of Police misconduct (within 10days).

4. In line with police act, psychological evaluation and retaining (to be confirmed by an independent body) of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed.

5. Increase Police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting lives and property of citizens.
