Hi All Sorry, earlier today I sent an email out with a contact information for the new Education Secretary Nicky Morgan asking everyone to add pressure to the Government in asking for minimum outdoor space requirements for new schools. Below is the best email to use... If you have already emailed, can you resend it to this new address? If you haven't already emailed, send your emails of support for our campaign to: ministers@education.gsi.gov.uk Dear All If you haven't heard already, David Cameron has announced today that Michael Gove is leaving his post as Education Secretary and is being replaced by Nicky Morgan, Treasury Minister and Minister for Women. This is a critical time for our campaign and we need to show Nicky Morgan that our campaign for outside space in new schools is widely supported and an issue the public want addressing. It would be fantastic if you can take just a few minutes to email Nicky Morgan directly (ministers@education.gsi.gov.uk) stating you want changes to legislation made that adds a minimum requirement for outside space in all new schools in the UK. If enough of us email her, we believe we can push for the issue to be addressed. Below is a draft email you can copy and paste if you prefer not to write your own. Thank you for your support. Please remember to share this email around and ask all friends and family to sign the petition: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/michael-gove-stop-new-schools-being-created-without-any-outdoor-space-for-children-to-play-and-learn Regards Alan ----- Email to be sent to: ministers@education.gsi.gov.uk Dear Nicky Morgan MP I am concerned that changes made to the Independent School Standard Regulations in 2013 and Standards for School Premises in 2012 do very little to protect outside space in our schools. The Government should be doing everything they can to make sure we provide our children with the highest quality education whilst safeguarding their health and well being. As a country facing an obesity crisis and a rise in mental health issues, it is vital that we provide our children with a school environment that delivers adequate space to learn and play and a diverse and rich experience. I am therefore asking that the current advice and guidelines for the provision of outdoor space for new free schools and academies changed to statutory requirement and the standards set out in the Building Bulletin 103 (BB103) to be met by all new schools opening in the UK. The BB103 external space requirement should be regarded as the baseline with new schools striving to provide more where possible. Your's sincerely,
