Parents Defending Education meeting 23/4: no to school land-grab!

Parliament last November approved The Infrastructure Act, a bill that removes control for decisions to sell or develop publicly owned land from the public sector. This fits well with the Academy conversion plans, as, with the excuse to speed up the process, when a local authority’s community schools convert to academy status, land held by the authority for those schools will transfer to the secretary of state, who will then grant a lease to the academy trust. Sale of the land can be authorised by the secretary of state. With no accountability to parents, only to trusts running academies, there are no guarantees that the council tax you've paid for so long and led to investment in local school improvement will be wasted as we will have no say. You may therefore want to share this petition and also attend the meeting Parents Defending Education on 23/4 at UCL, with Michael Rosen as one of the speakers.
