1k? Thank you for all the support!
I'd like to update the situation - Yesterday Niantic posted a response to the criticism on their twitter page, saying that they hear and appreciate our feedback. However, their first response is a rewording of the original tweet, removing all mention of "Autism Speaks" and instead about SAARC, a similar organization for autism that- you guessed it- has the same harmful ideologies and is even partnered with Autism Speaks, their website shows.
They are also donating to a school program run by SAARC, which, upon further research, is a school that uses "Intensive" ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) This method of behavioral therapy, has been linked to cases of later PTSD and trauma in Autistic people, and has been compared to dog training, reinforcing non-autistic behaviors and punishing and withholding rewards if the child fails to comply.
This response is a step in the right direction, however, many of us feel as if this is a empty response and has not resolved the issue of Niantic supporting Autism Speaks, which, by accessing the link they have posted, also shows the same AS "Walk" they are sponsoring for the 28th. So i am sad to say, that Niantic has not yet apologized nor pulled out of this partnership.
The 28th is surely approaching, and i still encourage all of you to #boycottpokemongo on the day. If you're worried about losing your streak, consider not purchasing in-app purchases for that day.
This isn't over for us yet, and we will fight to be heard. Keep sharing, emailing and tweeting at Niantic.
