Please sign this petition to raise the current bursary to a decent living bursary for all nursing students. Nursing at university unlike other courses lasts a full year to which they only have 5 weeks in total off from September-September. This is a full time course and students have study and university 5 days a week. During the 3 years students have 66 weeks of 37.5 hour placements as well as essays exams and course work to complete during this time. Student nurses receive currently receive £549 monthly not means tested.

 What does that pay for?

Rent (£300 +)

Gas (60)

Electric (70)

Food (150)

Books and stationary and internet ( varies )

Travel expenses ( £120-£200+)

It is impossible to become a student nurse without working a part time job or receiving other benefits. Student nurses do not get travel expenses they don’t get rent discounts they are expected to live on this bursary for 3 years. 

The bursary has gone up £49 pounds in the past 7 years! This is a disgrace and we need to do something about it!
