Reading through the thousands of comments left by people who have signed the petition, I felt bonded to so many of you. Again, I thank you for signing and sharing this important cause.
I was struck by the number of health professionals and maternity educators who have been touched by the devastation of group B Strep and who are also eager for change. This update is aimed at reaching more of them. Comments like:
“I'm signing because I work on a neonatal unit and have seen the devastating effects of group B Strep.”
“I work in NICU [neonatal intensive care unit] and so many of these deaths could be avoided.”
“I'm signing because I work in NICU and I see families who could have had a different outcome if this test were routine.”
“As an RN I looked after a lady whose baby died from GBS and a friend's little girl also got GBS at birth & now has developmental delays.”
“I’m a maternity educator in touch with hundreds of moms a year and I see the devastating outcomes of GBS.”
We are just below the 200,000 signature mark and I think the way to get us over that next big benchmark is to share the petition with our local Neonatal Intensive Care and Special Care Baby Units, Antenatal Clinics, Labour Wards and GP practices. Let’s get this in front of the people who are on the ground, day in and day out, working with pregnant mums and dealing with group B Strep.
Please send an email to these organisations in your are - most hospitals, surgeries and antenatal educators are on Twitter and Facebook so get their attention this way too!
Thank you for working to change things, so other families don't have to go through what we have been through.
Fiona
