8月30日、100万人が日本全国で３００ヵ所で安部総理大臣の国家安全保障基本法案（安保法案）に反対しました。その安保法案のため、自衛隊が海外で戦えるようになってしまいます。東京だけでは、１２万人が国会周辺に集まって戦争に反対しました。２０１２年の脱原発のデモ以来、最大のデモです。

それにもかかわらずNHKの報道姿勢は消極的で民主主義に立ち上がる国民の行動を正しく伝えませんでした。

３０日の夜、NHKはニュース７でデモについてレポートしましたが、２分くらいのレポートしかありませんでした。次の日、またニュース７に出ましたが、さらに短いレポートでした。９月１日には、もはやニュースからなくなってしまいました。

それに比べて、JRの燃えたケーブルについてのニュースはもう８月の半分からずっとニュースでレポートされています。実際は燃えたケーブルのせいで事故は起きてなく、けがをした人もいないのに、通行人のインタービューも入っている非常に詳しいレポートです。しかも、ニュース７だけではなく、ほかのニュース番組にも、例えばおはよう日本にもケーブルについてのレポートが出ます。一日で何回も放送されることもあります。

政治的に無害なトピックが放送時間の大部分を占めるということが問題です。重要性の低いトピックは何週間もずっとニュースに出続けるのに、なぜ安部政権の安保関連法案に反対するデモは２日間しか放送されないのでしょうか？しかも、なぜあのように大きなデモについてのレポートはそんなに短いのでしょうか？

１００万人が日本全国で同時に平和の未来のために集まったら、公共の重要性は高いです。全国放送のニュース番組で優先的に取り上げるべきです。

ニュースは客観的に、また政治的に中立であるべきです。政府に批判的であるトピックの量を減らすのは政治的な声明です。

NHKよ、全国戦争反対運動の広がりに干渉しないで！

私たちは下記のことを要求します。
３０日の安保法案に対するデモ、またその後に続く動きについては

• ... 全国ニュースにおいて
• ... 優先度の高い配置に
• ... 政治的な干渉を受け付けずに

報道すること。

On August 30th, 1 million people in 300 locations all over Japan took to the streets to oppose Prime Minister Abe's “national security“ bills, which allow the military to fight overseas. In Tokyo alone, 120,000 protesters gathered in front of parliament to protest against war. It was the biggest demonstration in Tokyo since the protests against nuclear power plants in 2012.

But the appropriate amount of news coverage on television was missing.

NHK, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, reported on the evening news program “News7” (Japanese: ニュース７） about the demonstration with nothing but a 2 min report on August 30th. The next day it appeared on News7 again, but with an even shorter report. By September 1st the story no longer appeared on News7.

For comparison: News about burned cables on the Japan Railway, which did not cause any further damage or injured persons, have been on the news continuously since mid August. Those reports include detailed background information and even passenger interviews. And they are not only on News7, but also on Ohayo Nihon (Japanese: おはよう日本), morning news show, and other news programs, sometimes multiple times in the same day.

The burned cable topic is only one example of many, how politically harmless topics occupy broadcasting time, even if they are not of national importance.

If topics from lower priority rest in multiple news programs for weeks, why not the demonstration against Abe's “war bills“?

When 1 million people stand up for peace - all over Japan at the same time - it is of high public importance and deserves and appropriate placement in the nation-wide news programs.

News should be objective and politically neutral. Reducing the time for government-critical topics is a political statement.

NHK, please do not interfere in the development of and enduring national anti-war movement!

We demand:
Reports on August 30th anti-war demonstration and further activities of this movement...

• … on nation-wide news programs!
• … with appropriate prioritizing and length!
• … without political interference!
