Save The Alexandra Theatre

The Issue

We need your help to save The Alexandra Theatre- Newton Abbot.

Recent re-development plans for Newton Abbot have been left many of us deeply saddened to see that our beloved Alexandra Theatre is set to be replaced by a restaurant/bar . This will be absolutely devastating for our town and community.

The Alexandra was built in 1871 as a basic community meeting place and was originally called the Alexandra Hall. In 1922 The Newton Abbot Operatic Society had been using the theatre for their productions and played alongside the professional touring companies that frequently came to Newton Abbot before the war.

Newton Abbot Musical Comedy Society continue to perform their productions and pantomimes here throughout the year, which are incredibly popular and attract audiences from our local and surrounding communities. Their award winning youth theatre group, NEWTS, also get an opportunity to perform here, which has given local young people (aged 8-17years) the amazing experience of performing in a ‘real’ theatre, with full set, lighting and orchestra - it’s magical.

This theatre is a huge part of our towns history, it has brought so much joy, and holds so many memories for SO many and it would be a huge loss for Newton Abbot if it goes.

The Alexandra Theatre has SO much potential for our community, it could be the perfect location for live concerts, comedy nights, touring shows, performance space for local community groups to utilise etc....

Please, please, please help by signing this petition to ‘Save The Alex’. With your help we CAN make a difference, our voices MUST be heard.

Thank you for your support in saving our beautiful theatre.
