Havannah Nature Reserve, just a short distance from Woolsington Woods, faces a fresh attack and we need your help to soften the blow.
Newcastle Great Park Consortium wants to build 1,200 houses and a school within metres of the reserve in Hazlerigg.
The density of the proposed development far exceeds – by hundreds of houses – the number of properties originally proposed for the site.
So many houses in such close proximity to the reserve would invite increased predation from domestic pets, which would devastate wildlife populations in and around the reserve, and eradicate the buffer zone that separates the important red squirrel population from greys.
Please sign the petition against the proposals here http://chn.ge/2aJnA2a and spread the word.
The proposals are currently under consultation and no planning application has been submitted yet but you can see that masterplan here: http://bit.ly/2b5vYW7
Thank you for your support.
Meanwhile, the Information Commissioner's Office has been in touch with Newcastle City Council regarding their handling of our latest freedom of information request about Woolsington Hall.
