On Friday a controversial application to build hundreds of homes on green belt land, close to the site for the proposed Woolsington developments, was thrown out when the Secretary of State backed a council decision to refuse the application on the grounds that the very special circumstances needed to justify inappropriate development on the green belt did not exist. Save Newcastle Wildlife has now requested the Secretary of State to call in the Woolsington planning applications on the grounds that they constitute a speculative business development on the green belt and make inappropriate use of an enabling development. We contend that the applications should be refused or subject to public inquiry. This Friday, the planning committee will meet to make a decision on the increasingly controversial developments proposed for Woolsington. Please come to the Civic Centre in Newcastle at 9.30 am to show your support for the Save Woolsington Woods campaign.
