Save Woolsington Woods

Save Woolsington Woods
The Issue
One of the last areas of mature woodland in Newcastle, Woolsington Woods, is threatened by an unnecessary major building development.
The plan is to destroy thirty acres of mature woodland as part of development on Newcastle's rapidly depleting green belt.
At present, the woodland is currently an ideal habitat for many plants and animals, including the endangered red squirrel but now it is threatened with plans for seventy-two millionaire homes and a golf course.
The woodland area was first created by one of England's greatest landscape architects, Capability Brown, and is a Site of Local Conservation Importance.
Newcastle is the last remaining English city with a population of red squirrels. It has already lost 25% of its green belt and cannot afford to lose anymore!
Lots of people joined us for our protest walk on the May Day bank holiday and we made the lead story on ITV Tyne Tees news that night. We even appeared in the local papers - The Evening Chronicle and The Journal. But we are going to need to put more public pressure on the council to make sure this vital woodland isn't destroyed.
Please sign the petition and help show the council that we have to preserve our woodland, save endangered animals and protect the green belt.
The campaign is gaining momentum and people are beginning to notice; Newcastle will not let go of its green belt without a fight.
