Toby's no bloodhound but he did accompany me to look at some bike lanes. There has been some undoubted progress but the bike routes through the city remain fragmented, variable in quality, variable in safety and do not yet appear part of an integrated transport strategy. The most sustainable way to grow the economy whilst preventing car use threatening the town moor is to encourage other modes of transport. Perception of safety is a major impediment to take up of cycling.
