The decision notice for the Newcastle Great Park application for Cell A/B1 will be issued this Friday, 21st December.

We will be triggering the judicial review process once the decision notice is issued.

Judicial review is the process of challenging the lawfulness of decisions of public authorities, in this case, Newcastle City Council.

This lengthy legal process could delay the application for a year, at least.

This untimely delay will be a consequence of the insatiable greed of Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey, and Newcastle City Council's unwillingness to play by the rules.

We set out in no uncertain terms that this development would be unlawful and that we would take legal action, giving both the council and the applicant the opportunity to come up with a less harmful proposal in line with the local plan. 

But Newcastle City Council and the applicant refused to listen. 

We cannot stand by and watch the erosion of Newcastle's Green Belt, harm to wildlife and an assault on 'democracy'.

It is in the public interest to challenge this decision.
