Thank you to everyone who attended Thursday's eventful parish council meeting. Hazlerigg Community Centre was packed with Save Newcastle Wildlife supporters and residents objecting to plans for Newcastle Great Park allotments, which would see tree felling in and around Havannah Nature Reserve to make way for an unnecessary car park and turning area. More than 300 people signed our petition against the proposals, which were in the early stages of consultation. Following the vociferous concerns raised at the meeting, it was agreed the next meeting would be attended by council officers, the Newcastle Great Park Consortium and Newcastle Great Park residents. Thanks to the show of public opposition to the plans - at this stage - they will not proceed any further. In the meantime, if you wish to voice your objections as part of the consultation process, we have been informed the main point of contact is victoria.parkin@newcastle.gov.uk
