Petition updateBetter, safer maternity care for women: count babies as patients and give us safe ratios. We waited for the report in 2019 and still there’s no action!

We are nearly a third of the way into 2021 and there’s still been no action. Midwives and Mums need your help.  Our main women’s hospital in WA is more than 40 midwives short and not even receiving enough applications to fill their new graduate midwife positions.  A significant part of the problem is unmanageable workloads for Midwives.

We wrote the submissions and attended the consultation groups in 2018 to set the direction for Maternity care in Australia. These are the actions the federal and State Health Minister asked us to take.

Multiple stakeholders implored the government to change the way babies are categorised in maternity units to provide better, safer care and stop the burnout that’s been affecting out midwifery workforce.

The recommendation from the governments own report was made in 2019 to revise the definition that stops us counting babies as our patients - that’s almost 18 months ago.

This has to change, if you can share again, please do, we need public pressure to make this happen.

Thanks again,

Kelly
