Sooner or later we will be forced to choose if we want to remain an independent nation aligned with Europe and Greenland, or become part of Trump's new Western Hemisphere authoritarian/fascist 21st-century MAGA imperialistic empire. We have a right to be involved in such a decision.
It’s time to draw the line or at least openly discuss our options. Currently, we are not doing so. We are ignoring or pretending it's not our issue in New Zealand, sitting on the fence while watching the chaos in the US.
We urge the press and media to fulfill their duty and challenge our government by asking which side they have chosen to stand with, making it clear to us Kiwis and explaining their decisions to the public.
At present, we are all left in the dark about whether we are supporting fascism in the US or not. It's a straightforward question, and it's the press's responsibility to ask such questions in New Zealand; otherwise, they are complicit in our governments ghosting, silence and lack of response to the unfolding events in the US and the threat of fascism.
We implore the New Zealand government to clearly state which side we are supporting (Democracy or fascism), and we urge the press to fulfill their duty by asking this crucial question, as it is their responsibility in New Zealand.
