We urge the New Zealand government to declare a new public holiday to support domestic tourism as part of the country's COVID-19 recovery plan. We're calling it 'Get Out Of Town Day' or GOOT Day for short.

New Zealand's tourism industry has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis. Around 400,000 jobs here depend on tourism. Recovery is predicted to take up to five years and with international borders closed across the world, domestic tourism may be our only saving grace. The answer? A public holiday where New Zealanders can 'Get Out Of Town'.
