I am seriously amazed at the outpouring of support we have seen. In less than a day, we've gone from my small group of Facebook friends (~30 people) to over 30,000. It will only continue growing and the New York Times will have to notice. As I read comments on social media, it seems that the main objection to the petition is that we are trying to restrict freedom of speech or press. This is absolutely false! If someone challenges you on this point, simply respond that we have no objection to the New York Times writing an editorial or news article. We have an issue with the fact that they used an obituary as a way to push a political agenda. My wife and I started this petition because we felt like something needed to be said and with the overwhelming support we've received, we are happy that we said it.
