On July 11, 1936 (81 years ago), the Triboro Bridge opened for business, connecting Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. The name of the bridge said it all: it connects you not to just ONE other place, but two.  

However, in 2008, the NY State Legislature voted to rename that historical bridge after a politician, just as it also did to the Queensboro Bridge and the Tappan Zee Bridge.  Was there any need for a name change? No. It was done for political reasons at the expense of history. 

The current name of the former Triboro Bridge? Drum roll please: The RFK Bridge. 

We don't want our historical bridge named after a politician from either party, and we don’t want the RFK name replaced with any other name either. This is not political. We just want our bridge back. The historical apolitical name that has been with us for more than 81 years: The Triboro Bridge.
