Save our historic stone wall and street trees!

Proposed construction at Curtis High School threatens nearby historic stone walls and street trees of the St. George-New Brighton Historic District. The walls are part of Curtis High School, located on Block 22, Lot 1, a Landmarks Preservation Commission site requiring city approval for any changes.
We strongly urge the NY School Construction Authority to preserve and protect this beautiful and impressive stone wall.
Community Board 1, along with the St. George Civic Association and supporting organizations, individuals, and neighbors urgently need to review the Environmental Impact Statement and the most recent plans for the project. We have been unable to obtain these documents.
Any work done must be in compliance with the Landmark Deed
that states: the school and land of Block 22, Lot 1 are a landmark site.
The century-old wall not only functions as a retaining wall, but gives our neighborhood a strong sense of place. On our sidewalks, people meet and talk, make movies, feed birds, and enjoy the stone wall and trees with Curtis High School as a handsome landmarked neighbor.
PRESERVE AND PROTECT OUR HISTORIC WALLS!
