Thank you for signing on to urge Chancellor Carranza to do away with middle school screens for the 2019-20 school year! Chalkbeat has just posted a piece about our campaign, highlighting the power of petitions like this to make policy change: "Online petitions frequently have little practical impact beyond allowing people to elevate perspectives that might otherwise be left out of public debates. But sometimes they can make a big difference. The city teachers union right now is lobbying for paid parental leave for its members, for example, after a petition to make that a top priority went viral last year. Bare said she hopes her petition helps change the conversation in New York City in a similarly seismic way. “Individuals need to make different choices but policy needs to change as well,” she said." I know you have at least ONE friend who should sign this petition but hasn't -- can you go out and get them RIGHT NOW, and ask them to do the same? I imagine you also have one friend who would be more reluctant: Can you also promise to share this petition and this story with them, and speak with them by the end of the weekend about where they stand on this debate? Together we can guide our leaders toward this one concrete step toward integrating our schools--and our city. And from there, much more change will follow. Gratefully, KB
