Summer school is perceived as punitive and tedious and has not proven successful in getting children “on track” to earn credits. It may be more harmful this year if summer school program does not take time to address the social aspects of learning. Students who have not been able to meet academic requirements in 2020/21 should not be expected to go to summer school without a complete overhaul.
