Landmark 441 Willoughby Avenue before demolition is approved by DOB!
The Issue
This is a petition to landmark 441 Willoughby Avenue on the corner of Nostrand Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Also known as The Jacob Dangler house, this French Gothic inspired building began construction in the 1870's and was completed in 1902. The house was sold in 1967 to Oriental Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star, a masonic organization, who are still the current owners on record. Generally a male dominated group, this lodge is almost exclusively for African American women
Currently, the lodge is used for community and social functions. The WMNBA Block Association holds their monthly meetings here and many people use it for private events and gatherings.
The purpose of landmarking this beautiful, 120 year old building is to preserve an important piece of local architecture and history so it can be enjoyed for years to come. Please show your support by signing the petition.
