This past week the world witnessed two teenagers dangle from a NYCHA window and save themselves from a fire that started in their apartment. Leaving not only the children but their mother and others injured and leaving one man dead. The same way NYCHA enforces gates on windows and carbon monoxide alarms they should also supply tenants , whom are mainly low income with fire extinguishers. Most of these buildings are not maintained correctly and lack rapid responses when tickets for maintenance is requested by tenants  . Fire extinguishers can prevent the spread of fires / more unfortunate tragedies like the one those children experienced. Public housing does not have fire escapes or any safe alternatives should the front door not be available to escape . Tenants safety should be number one priority so I ask for you to sign this petition so we can have NYCHA provide tenants in ALL developments with fire extinguishers.
