Put stop signs on 85th Avenue at 113th & 114th Streets to prevent future car accidents

The Issue

We NEED stop signs on 85th Avenue at 113th and 114th Streets in Richmond Hill, Queens. There have been countless accidents at these intersections over the past 25 years, and two in the last 6 months that involved a pedestrian injury and a school bus full of children.

Cars speed down the avenue, as there are no stop signs for FOUR intersections in a row. Pedestrians are at the mercy of the cars; there is only ONE intersection to safely cross on 85th Avenue between the train trestle and Myrtle Avenue. I have lived on the avenue all my life and have witnessed both the collisions and the aftermath of too many accidents that could have been easily avoided if there were four-way stop signs at the intersections.

We have been asking for four-way stop signs on 85th Avenue constantly for the past 25 years to no avail. NYC DOT Commissioners have sent us automated responses claiming that a stop sign is "not deemed necessary" at this location. But they don't live here and witness the accidents firsthand as we do, as both drivers and pedestrians.

Putting stop signs at these intersections would (a) force cars to slow down, and (b) prevent further accidents involving both cars and pedestrians. Action needs to be taken before another accident happens! Please sign this petition to put stop signs on 85th Avenue at 113th and 114th Streets!
