The Perseverance: Immortalizing NYC Black Lives Matter Street Art

The Issue

In what we are coining "The Perseverance", we stand in unity regardless of race and/or skin color, petitioning for Cities around the country to commemorate the Black Lives Matter movement and this historic moment in history by preserving the powerful and inspirational artwork gracing shuttered buildings throughout our countries urban communities. This petition in particular will aim to immortalize the artwork currently on display within New York City and all five of its boroughs (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island).

Over the course of the last several weeks, groups of artists and activists have taken to the streets and made their voices heard in the form of artwork and other messages urging reflection and change. Each piece of artwork represents the voice of someone who felt strongly enough about the Black Lives Matter movement and the injustice rampant in our country that they spent hours and days making their voice heard through their art, and those voices deserve to be amplified.

We believe this will prove to be an inflection point in the history of our country that will change the fabric of society for the better and should be a moment that is looked back upon and celebrated for many generations to come. In order to help facilitate that reflection and celebration, I believe that, as businesses reopen and artwork is taken down and removed from windows, it should be transported to a gallery or museum and enshrined in our history as a symbol of something to never be forgotten.

The City of New York has the opportunity to make sure this moment never passes, and that the chorus of voices fighting for change and a better America for all is amplified, remembered, and commemorated in a way that allows future generations to look back on this moment in a tangible way and make sure that the positive momentum we are gaining now is never lost.

If you would like to help be apart of the cause, please create a similar post and spread the word by adding to the list/cities below. We are all in this together.
