I have disappointing news to share. After lengthy discussions between The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and New York Blood Center, NYBC continues to deny its responsibility for the lifetime care of the chimpanzees it used for decades in awful experiments before leaving them to die 18 months ago. The HSUS has reported to me that they offered to partner with NYBC and contribute substantial financial and expert support to care for the chimpanzees. But, NYBC was only willing to provide a tiny fraction of what will be needed to give these chimpanzees the lifetime care they deserve. They also refused to contribute a single dollar to help build shelter or a facility to provide even rudimentary medical care after leaving these animals on islands with no way to access them in the case of an emergency. Apparently, NYBC continues to believe that the burden of their despicable actions should be borne by animal protection organizations, the caring public and the government of Liberia. Please help hold NYBC accountable by sharing this petition with others and contacting NYBC through these other means listed below to let them know their actions are deplorable and they need to step up and provide lifetime care for these chimpanzees!
