New Rabbis in the Chabad Movement Should Be Required To Get Guns

The Issue

Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a 28-year-old Chabad-Lubavitch emissary to the United Arab Emirates was sadly abducted and murdered by terrorists in Dubai, causing shockwaves throughout the Jewish community worldwide. His tragic loss serves as a painful reminder of the security risks challenged by those working towards the promotion of religious tolerance and peace.

In light of this devastating event, it becomes evident that rabbis in the Chabad movement are in dire need of additional protection. For this reason, we are petitioning for a change that will mandate all new members of the Chabad movement to acquire a gun license for their security.

While the tragic event that befell Rabbi Kogan cannot be undone, we hope that improved security measures can prevent similar occurrences in the future. By requiring gun licenses, rabbis can have the capacity to safeguard themselves and contribute positively towards the general safety of the religious sector.

The mandate for self-defense aligns with established practices in several countries around the world where religious leaders are empowered to protect themselves and their congregation. But, we understand that acquiring gun licenses is not merely about possessing a firearm. Therefore, we also advocate for comprehensive gun training to ensure proper knowledge and responsible usage of firearms.

By signing this petition, you support the necessary change for enhancing safety measures for rabbis in the Chabad movement. Nobody should have to fear for their lives, more so those who dedicate themselves to fostering religious unity and understanding. Sign this petition to help protect our community leaders.
