New Pool for Layton

The Issue

Why We Need a New 50 Meter Pool in Layton City

Layton City Surf N Swim was built in 1986, making it 36 years old. It has been a wonderful pool that has served its purpose and needs to be replaced. The city council recently commissioned a study that will detail how long the Surf N Swim has left before it must be replaced.

There are many reasons we need a new pool. These are a few:

1.      It is often closed due to broken parts or imbalance in chemicals caused by an old system.

2.      The bubble is nearing the end of its life. It is also so old that visually it creates a dark and dingy environment inside the pool.

3.      There are three high schools and one USA Swimming club team working out at the Surf N Swim. They do not have enough lane space. They also cannot host meets easily because of the current pool design—there are no regulation blocks. The swimmers must dive off the high edge of the pool using towels.

4.      A 50 meter pool would attract large meets sponsored by USA Swimming, generating economic activity for Layton City.

5.      A 50 meter pool would provide 20 lanes, which would allow for the public and the swim teams in the area to have ample space for lap swimming.

6.      A 50 meter pool + a diving well would allow for water aerobics and lap swimming to occur in separate pools with separate temperatures.

7.      Davis School District has pledged their financial support to Layton City if they will build a new pool and allow the school district to use it for high school competition and practice.

The city council is aware of this problem but needs the voice of city residents to help prioritize the issue. Please add your support.
