Recently, New Hanover County Schools shocked parents when they announced for the upcoming school year, they would no longer update the covid dashboard and would pass all covid surveillance and notification on to the NHC Health Department. This means, families in NHCS will not receive email notifications when there are positive cases in their child's school and will not be informed of how many covid cases are in our district. 

Many parents used this data to make safety decisions for their children. We are asking NHCS to continue to update this dashboard and continue with email notifications.

Full transparency is vital during this pandemic!  

Many parents checked this dashboard weekly and it provided important information about the safety of our schools. Parents could see first hand how effective our mitigation strategies were in controlling in school transmissions. It gave us insight as to how well our schools were following covid protocols. And, most importantly, it eased our fears because we could see data supporting these mitigation strategies were working. 

We need this data to know if NHCS is keeping our children safe in schools. We also need this data to determine when it is safe to eliminate our covid protocols. Without this data, we can not make proactive, informed decisions as parents or as a school district.
