SAVE OUR MAIN LIBRARY (and Museum)

SAVE OUR MAIN LIBRARY (and Museum)
The Issue
New Hanover County Commissioners, NHC Manager: We request that the Main Library and Cape Fear Museum be preserved in their current locations to allow renovation of both public education facilities to include more educational technology and community services. Downsizing our Library and Museum at a time, when more children, students, and adults are moving into NHC, is ill-conceived and short-sighted. Libraries across the country are becoming even more identified as safe community centers beyond home, work, school. Many technologies could be available to assist those who are studying, job searching, inventing, acclimating. 21st century libraries all over North Carolina and the United States are implementing these services as more taxpayers and their families need these services. The proposed cost of over 78 million dollars to destroy this large library to "co-locate", downsize, and confine these two entities is fiscally, environmentally, and socially irresponsible. (1) Please keep the Main Library in its present building as part of the development known as Project Grace. (2) Please continue, enhance, and enlarge the Cape Fear Museum in its present location. 3) A tax-paying development on the Grace Street side of this block is the better use of this block. SAVE OUR MAIN LIBRARY AND MUSEUM!
