The first step that the APA takes to get a topic addressed is to put together a group of experts (a working group) to focus their time on addressing the topic. During the April meetings the APA Committee on Children, Youth, and Families put forward a motion to request such a group specifically for our situation. There are two boards who must pass the motion for it to reach the bodies who have the authority to create such groups. One board will consider it at their next meeting which should take place within the next two months. However the other board has already passed the motion! After the motion is completely passed, it will be presented to the APA Board of Directors for final approval to organize a group of experts and put them to work. All of this can take some time, but thanks to everyone's support, it's continuing to move forward, and you can be assured that we will all continue to keep this ball rolling!
