A sturdy metal plate with a curved corner has been fixed this week by Network Rail at the top of the western steps over the railway, covering the hazardous gaping rusty hole. Charles Baker, Senior Public Affairs Manager of Network Rail has agreed to 'support the Council' (Waltham Forest) in the installation of a handrail on that side, not understanding that a handrail already exists there - it's just hidden behind the metal panel shielding people from the railway.
