Did you know that child laborers in West Africa risk their health in order to produce the chocolate that you eat? Yes, you! These little kids in West Africa are forced to skip school to work on cocoa farms, just to meet our demand for more chocolate. These children are exposed to dangerous pesticides and extreme heat, and they have to use large machetes and carry hundred-pound bags of cacao beans each day. The worst thing is, to satisfy consumers’ high demand for chocolate, international companies such as Hershey’s, Mars, and Nestlé uses cocoa produced by West African child slavery. That means that cocoa products that you eat everyday, such as Kit Kats, Crunch, M&M’s, Hershey’s Kisses, and Snickers, are made with cocoa harvested by suffering child laborers!

Chocolate companies have promised to do something about it, but they are taking too long. We want them to spend more money on eradicating child labor and importing their cocoa from sustainable, fair-trade cocoa farms.
