Hi Team Maitai,
This petition had over 9,700 awesome signatories when it was presented to Council on 14 November - Go Team Maitai! While that represents a great number of supporters, a petition alone will not save the Maitai.
To help a little more, please send some feedback to NCC on their Draft Nelson Plan. It's open for feedback until 6 December.
Easy Ways for you to Give Feedback on NCC's Draft Nelson Plan
The Save the Maitai campaign team has looked at the draft and made 2 easy ways for you to give feedback.
Choose from:
Option A) The 10-minute super-short option
OR
Option B) About 1 hour (more detailed)
Option B looks at areas of the plan that are relevant to the Maitai housing proposal; you can comment on each area to request NCC protect and preserve the Maitai Valley from development and urbanisation. NB: Parts 4 & 6 from the draft Plan are very important.
Please take the time to read these parts in Option B, and to comment on them.
We left spaces for your comments throughout, rather than circulating something to print & sign, because Council staff need to hear individual perspectives.
You may also wish to:
1. Ask Council to include the Maitai Valley as an area of historical and cultural significance.
2. Comment on the 'Urban Form and Development' parts of the draft plan, reminding Council that as Nelson's population grows, the green-space offered by the Maitai will become even more valuable to the health and well-being of our people.
Finally; it could be a good idea to send a COPY of your feedback to all Councillors to help ensure they are aware of the range of concerns and level of opposition to subdivision of the Maitai Valley (in case they receive an application for zone change before the final Nelson Plan is adopted)!
