I've gotten a lot of emails recently about what people can physically do to support Booksellers. So, I’ve decided to dedicate the next five updates to explain ways in which you can actually help out the Booksellers at Laurelwood. I’ve also seen numerous comments saying something to the effect of “I signed the petition…for what it’s worth.” While yes, this petition by itself cannot save Booksellers, this petition combined with intentional effort can. How can you use intentional effort to save Booksellers? Read on…
Way #1: Go to Their Events
While the books at Booksellers are flying off the shelves as I speak (or rather write), the authors that have decided to still visit Booksellers, despite their current condition, are not. In fact, tomorrow at 6:30pm (you might want to write this down) Steve Bradshaw, writer of Evil Like Me, will be visiting Booksellers until 8:30pm. Regardless of whether you’ve read the book (which I hope you have or will because it’s a pretty fantastic book), showing Mr. Bradshaw a full house tomorrow at the event will not only display a level of love for Booksellers to the Booksellers’ staff, it will also show the whole city that Booksellers is a beloved landmark. Wouldn’t it be crazy if 2,100 people showed up tomorrow to Booksellers at 6:30pm? I know everyone is busy as school, jobs, etc. that are starting to get back to the grind.
So, while I STRONGLY encourage you to come tomorrow, I do understand that there are some of you who may not be able to come and that is ok…because there are several more authors coming! Below are the two upcoming authors visiting Booksellers:
Monday, January 16th: Lydia Peelle's 'Midnight Cool' ft. Ketch Secor
Wednesday, January 18th: Nick Bruel signs "Bad Kitty Takes the Test"
If you are coming tomorrow, please respond below in the comments with “I’ll be there tomorrow!” so we can show just how much support Booksellers has in our Memphis community. Then, head over to https://www.facebook.com/events/1024154327714192/ and click “Yes” to show Booksellers that you are coming. Also, be sure to email me any pictures you take at tomorrow's event at savebooksellers@gmail.com
Last thing, to address the concerns that the GoFundMe link is no longer on the petition, I, in conjunction with the Booksellers’ staff, have decided to hold off on fundraising any money to give directly to Booksellers until we know more about the future of Booksellers. It just doesn’t seem right to fundraise money if I cannot guarantee that this money can be utilized by Booksellers in any effective way.
Thank you, SHARE the petition with #MemphisGetsLit, and see you tomorrow at 6:30pm.
