Allow Dermaplaning For All Estheticians in CT!

The Issue

We are asking the State of Connecticut to revisit the current scope work allowed for a non-medical estheticians. The scope has not been revisited since it was mandated that one needs a Connecticut license to practice in the State. Permitting dermaplaning would allow our estheticians to fully practice their craft, bring more jobs to Connecticut, and open up availability of this service to the community.

An esthetician's goal is to work with the epidermis of the skin. Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that uses a 10 gauge scalpel (sterilized surgical blade) to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. Not being able to provide this service does not allow the estheticians to fully practice the scope of work they have studied hard and trained for.

Unfortunately under the current legislation for scope of work Licensed Estheticians in CT they are not allowed to perform Dermaplaning. This service is allowed to be performed under the scope or Licensed Estheticians in neighboring NY, drawing in revenue and taxes into New York state and away from Connecticut.
