Here is our response from the ACLU Nebraska

May 6, 2019

This is in response to your letter asking for help from the ACLU of Nebraska.

The American Civil Liberties Union is a private, non-profit organization that focuses on constitutional rights. The Constitution only protects us from the government. This means we rarely handle cases against private individuals or private companies. Due to limited resources, we cannot address every complaint about government action either. Generally, we do not handle individual criminal cases, family law matters, juvenile court matters, commercial disputes, or employment law matters. We are unable to answer legal questions, review papers, make copies, forward mail, or conduct legal research on your behalf unless we accept your case.

Based on the information you sent us, we are not able to represent you. However, we recommend you consider consulting a private attorney, because you might have a legitimate claim that is just not within the scope of our organization’s limited resources. The Nebraska State Bar Association can help you find one in your area. For Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, and Washington counties you should call: (402) 280-3603. For all other counties call: (800) 927-0117.

Additionally, the State of Nebraska Judicial Branch has provided a compiled list of legal resources at https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/self-help/legal-resources-information We have also attached a list of organizations that may be able to help you address your problem.

Again, we are sorry we cannot represent you. We wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,
Lisa S.
Law Clerk
