People who smoke at home with their windows wide open or in their balconies are causing nuisance and health worries to their victim neighbours.

Victim neighbours have no means to solve this and it causes distress at home, especially for families with young children when cigarette smoke fills their homes throughout the day and night.

You may not have this problem today, but you WILL if a new neighbour who smokes moves in next door!

We call on NEA and the Ministry to enact legislation to ban cigarette smoke from escaping one’s home - I.e - You can smoke at home, but the smoke should not escape your home (windows shut, doors closed, no smoking on balconies). the principle of this is “what you do should not affect others”.

This also aligns with current laws that ban smoking in public places and in private vehicles where likewise, windows must be rolled up - the home should be the first place where non-smokers feel safe from the dangers of 2nd hand smoke.
