Stop 'Women of Worth' Campaign because L’Oréal supports apartheid Israel
The Issue
NDTV is running a campaign called Women of Worth in partnership with global beauty house L’Oréal Paris ostensibly to scout, recognise and award achievements of brave and driven Indian women who have committed themselves to distinguish their own lives by making a difference in the lives of others. This is shocking because Indian women are supposed to be rewarded by NDTV in partnership with L’Oréal which has deep and extensive involvement in business relations with Israel, despite the latter’s continued occupation and apartheid policies and genocidal tactics against the indigenous Palestinian people. In the twenty first century alone around 10 thousand Palestinian civilians including women and children have been killed, 90 thousand Palestinians have been injured and millions of Palestinians have been rendered homeless by the barbaric Israeli regime.
L’Oréal has a headquarter in Israel with a production factory located in a Palestinian village which was formerly known as the ‘Al-Mujaydil’ and which was ‘cleansed’ during 1948 and renamed Migdal HaEmek. In addition, L’Oreal Israel manufacturers a line of products using Dead Sea minerals under the name “Natural Sea Beauty” that is exported to 22 countries. Due to military occupation and apartheid practice, the Dead Sea is not available for tourism, mining or other businesses for Palestinians. L'Oreal has also awarded a $100,000 "lifetime achievement" award to a scientist at Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science in July 2008. The Weizmann Institute has been a major centre for clandestine research and development of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons on behalf of Israel's military with which it has close ties.
Looking at the deep and extensive ties of L’Oréal with Zionist Israel the worldwide Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement has made an appeal to all the conscientious individuals and organisations worldwide to boycott L’Oréal. On behalf of BDS India we appeal to NDTV to stop Women of Worth and end the partnership with L’Oréal. We also appeal to the nominees of this award to withdraw their nominations in protest against the collaboration of L’Oréal with the apartheid policies and genocidal tactics of Zionist Israel. Indian women do not need recognition from the supporters of Zionist Israel.
