Division II Student-Athletes and Advocates:

SAAC members at Division II institutions throughout our country have been informed of a recommendation from the Division II Commissioners’ Association to place both minimum and maximum competition contests/dates on all sports during the 2020-2021 academic year.  While we both appreciate and recognize the importance of this pandemic, we also believe that reducing minimums is absolutely an appropriate step for the 2020-2021 academic year.  This allows for an appropriate cost containment baseline. 

However, reducing maximums is not aligned with Division II’s mission.  Further, as many SAAC groups and student-athletes were not consulted on this topic, we are urging the NCAA Division II Management Council and NCAA Division II Presidents’ Council to enact the reduction in minimum competitions – permitting cost containment throughout our entire division – but also protecting the maximum competitions as they stand.   In other words, ONLY REDUCE MINIMUMS, NOT MAXIMUMS, IN EACH SPORT. The minimum reduction accomplished the cost containment goal.
