Remove the Nascar Super Bowl 2015 Commercial
Remove the Nascar Super Bowl 2015 Commercial
The Issue
As a mother of a child living a gluten free diet due to Celiac Disease, I am extremely offended by this commercial. If you feel the same, let Nascar know by signing this petition, posting to their social media sites, and/or by creating a petition of your own. Whether or not this was meant to be satirical, it's offensive. Essentially, Nascar is implying that those with Celiac Disease are soft, weak, and part of America's problem. I believe Nascar is part of problem by joking about gluten. Celiac disease affects over 3 million Americans, making it the most common autoimmune disease in the world and for these people it is not a joke! A 100% gluten-free diet is the only existing treatment for celiac today. Since every home, school cafeteria, and restaurant can be a potential exposure to gluten, joking instead of educating places these people at risk. Risk for what? Intense stomach pain and flu like symptoms, and long term untreated celiac disease increases the risk of cancer 200-300%. Joking also opens the doors to bullying. Did you know that 35% of kids with food allergies have been bullied because of them. More than 20% report being bullied or harassed by a teacher or other school staff. Please sign the petition and let Nascar know their ad is not appropriate!
Also, if you have Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and/or Instagram, add your complaint with a photo with #celiacisntfunny to @NASCAR and @NBC
