NBC Fire Katie Rich Petition Four days ago I started a petition calling for NBC to fire Katie Rich a writer for Saturday Night Live. As I type this, the petition has garnered 123,003 signatures. By now, most of you have heard in some fashion or another about her tweet. NBC has suspended Mrs. Rich indefinitely. The network should rethink this decision and terminate Mrs. Rich immediately. In the last couple days, some have tried to make this a political issue. When I started this petition, politics and political correctness wasn’t on my mind. What was on my mind was what was right and what was wrong. Using an innocent child as the butt of a joke is not comedy and is very wrong. Stopbullying.gov thinks bullying is a serious enough issue that they list the National Suicide Prevention Line 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and links to local counselors and other mental health providers on their webpage. Over 3.2 million students are victimized by bullying every year. Children who look different, have developmental problems, too smart, or they are just wearing the wrong shoes. Our country’s most recent school shooting took place on Inauguration day at West Liberty-Salem High School in Ohio the same day Katie Rich tweeted, “Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter”. Is there anything above funny to you? NO?....It wasn’t to the 123,003 people who so far have signed the petition. Bullying is not a political issue and school shootings should not be labeled as just an offensive joke. Just ask any child who has suffered from the hands of a bully or the parents of a child who has died in a school shooting. Mia
