NBC News anchor Brian Williams was caught fabricating a story involving an incident during the Iraq war and suspended for 6 months without pay. To make amends and help the country move on from the scandal, NBC/Universal should donate his suspended salary, an estimated $5 million dollars, to a cause that benefits our troops. The move would be a positive step and show a commitment to the men and women who sacrifice so much in a time of war. 

My name is Lloyd Alexander and I understand the outrage. Like many Americans, I have close family members and friends who have been deployed overseas. I also want to be able to trust those who deliver the news. When I heard Brian Williams would be losing $5 million dollars in pay I decided to start a petition. I felt simply punishing Brian Williams was not a positive way to try to end the controversy. 

Instead of just punishing Williams, why not find a way to take a horrible situation and give back to the people who were actually in danger. $5 million dollars would be a welcomed donation to any organization working to help our troops. It also would be a way for NBC/Universal and Brian Williams to give back in a meaningful way. 

Americans are a forgiving people and I believe we can turn the page on this scandal on a positive note. Please join me in calling for NBC/Universal to donate the $5 million dollars they would have paid Williams to a cause benefiting our troops. Please sign and share today.
